Rules

1. No slamming.
Takedowns are not considered slamming, unless intent to injure is determined by the referee. This includes no spiking of your opponent on their head. This is to avoid slamming to escape the guard and various submissions from the guard and to prevent any major injury.
2. You must deliver your opponent safely to the mat.
That is, if you take your opponent down, you must come down with your opponent. This prevents “pro wrestling” type dangerous slams. Anyone violating this rule will be immediately disqualified.
3. No infectious diseases allowed.
Competitors with any of the following infectious diseases will NOT be allowed to compete: Herpes (cold sores), Fungal Infections (Ringworm), and any form of Staph, Viral or other Bacterial Infections or outbreaks. Please try to avoid embarrassing situations and police yourself and your teammates. We reserve the right to refuse entry to any competitor with suspicious symptoms.
4. General Cleanliness.
Come to the event clean with trimmed toe and finger nails. Competitors with offensive odors before the event starts will be refunded and kindly asked to leave the tournament. We are looking to create a safe, clean and friendly environment – Please help the sport out and do your part!
5. Equipment.
Gis that conform to CBJJ specifications are required for all gi divisions. Shorts, minimally, are required for all no-gi divisions. A mouthguard and cup are recommended, but not necessary. No oils or lubricants are allowed on any part of the body. There is absolutely no grabbing of clothing in no-gi divisions.
6. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
This includes, but is not limited to: arguing with the referee or score keepers, foul language, obscene gestures, excessive force, failure to shake hands prior to and after the match, and so on. Warnings will be given at the referee’s discretion with disqualification resulting from repeated warnings. Please note that a coach’s or teammate’s unsportsmanlike conduct can result in their competitor’s disqualification as well.
7. Edge of the mat procedure.
If the competitors near the edge or the wall, the referee will wait until a resting period or until he/she feels the competitor might be in danger and then re-start the competitors in the same position in the center. If a competitor scramble takes place near the edge, the referee will yell STOP! and restart the competitors in the center of the ring in the standing position.
8. Injury Time.
In the instance of bleeding, the match will be halted immediately. The mat and competitor will be cleaned and disinfected. A competitor is entitled to 3 total minutes of injury time to stop any bleeding. If at any time during the match a previously treated cut begins to bleed again, the match will be stopped immediately and the opponent will win by Injury Default.

9. Stalling.
The referee can and will issue warnings for the following: backing out of the guard without engaging, butt scooting, fleeing the ring to avoid takedown/submission attempts, and other actions deemed “passive.”
1st offense: official warning.
2nd offense: 2 point deduction.
3rd offense: 3 point deduction.
4th offense: disqualification.

SCORING

No additional points are awarded for elevated throws.
2. Sweeps
Sweep with legs: 2 points
Inversions (power rolls from the side or full mount or half guard): 0 points.
There are no points for reversals. It is a competitor’s obligation to escape a bad position (mount, rear mount, or side control). No points are awarded for these escapes.
3. Guard Passes
Passing opponent’s guard or half guard: 3 points.
4. Mount
Full mount on opponent’s chest, both knees on the ground: 4 points
Full mount on opponent’s back, both knees on the ground: 4 points

6. Advantages.
Advantages are given for any maneuver that poses a real threat to one’s opponent. This includes near takedowns, near sweeps, near submissions, and so on. Advantages are to be given at the referee’s discretion and only play a factor if the match is tied at the finish.
7. Winning the match.
A verbal submission and/or “tapping out” will result in the end of the match. If at any time the referee deems the position too dangerous (despite the competitor not submitting), he or she may stop the match at his or her discretion. A loud yell may cause the referee to stop the match, so do not make noises unless you want the match to be called. If no submission occurs, the player with the highest score at the end of the match will be declared the victor. In the event of a tie, the player with the most advantages will be declared the winner. In the event of a tie in points and advantages, the players will engage in a two minute overtime round (pro division overtime rounds may be longer). If there is still a tie at the end of this round, the referee will declare a winner based on his or her discretion. Arguing with the ref will not be tolerated at any time and may result in immediate disqualification.
8. Referee stoppage/injury default.
If a competitor cannot continue due to injury or if the referee determines that the submission has caused unconsciousness or another serious injury, then the referee will stop the match and award the opponent with the victory. A referee may also disqualify a competitor for breaking any of the general rules as listed above.
